EKAHI VACATION CONDOS
We started Ekahi Vacation Condos in 2014 with the goal of offering a higher standard of Maui vacation rentals. What sets us apart is our attention to detail and all those little things you wouldn't expect from a normal vacation rental. Regardless of which condo you choose, each offers a consistent experience with similar amenities, supplies and available equipment. As some of our guests commented: 'It [28A] had everything we needed and some things we didn't even know we needed, but were glad to have!', or 'Best rental in Wailea [21B]', and '...we've stayed in many condos in the Wailea/Kihei area, but this is the nicest BY FAR! [35B]'. These are very kind words and we appreciate hearing such positive feedback from our guests.
The locations of the condos are all excellent as we chose them foremost for that reason. Our premium two-bedroom condos (and soon also 6C) are naturally a step above as everything is very modern as a result of the extensive designer remodels they received, but our one-bedroom units are equally as enjoyable and you'll find the details, from the dishes and flatware to the linens and beach essentials, to be very similar. We really enjoy staying in all of them as we appreciate their different charms.
We're often asked 'which condo is your favourite?', or 'which unit should I stay in?', and the answer is often 'it depends on what you're looking for', so here are a few insights to help you decide.
28A and 35B are our two-bedroom units and both received very extensive remodels in recent years. Both are of an equally high standard, although with 35B being our latest project, it saw a few extra design details that really make it 'pop', like the master bedroom/bath. The work we completed is much more than skin deep and these units are likely the most extensively renovated units in all of Wailea Ekahi. Both have new layouts, new sliding doors, new tile throughout, new kitchens, new bathrooms, new furniture, basically new everything. 28A even has a soundproof ceiling to reduce noise from upstairs, while 35B (a two-level townhouse) has all new windows as well as a locking sliding door so there's no need to walk around the building when going to the beach. We tried to think of every detail when designing these units.
So how are they different? First, 28A is slightly larger and all on the ground floor, while 35B is a two-level townhouse with the bedrooms on the upper floor. The larger footprint of 28A means that the second master bedroom is larger and features two queen beds, while for 35B the second master bedroom offers a king bed that can be converted into two twins. For extra guests, 35B also features a sleeper-sofa in the living room and an extra half-bath on the main floor. Both units can comfortably accommodate a family, but if maximum space is what you're after, 28A is the better choice. That said, 35B's master bedroom/bath is spectacular (and our favorite), so if you're looking for a little extra luxury in a bedroom, 35B is perfect for you.
28A is situated across a small grassy area from one of the 'quiet' pools with a beautiful view of the pool, palm trees, and the ocean/islands behind. Because it's a ground-floor unit, the view is slightly obstructed by trees and the pool, but the ocean is clearly in view behind them. 35B is situated on the 'greenbelt', a wide-open grassy area running up the middle of Wailea Ekahi, and it sits at a slightly higher elevation than 28A. From the main floor, it has an ocean view down the greenbelt, while from the master bedroom/lanai, it has a gorgeous panorama view of everything. As for distance from the beach, they are both very close and only a few minutes walk each, however 35B is a few meters farther and slightly higher up, but really only an extra 30 seconds to a minute. The greenbelt is a popular spot for sunsets so if you like that 'community' feel and the best views, you'll love 35B. On the other hand, 28A gets a beautifully lit view of the pool after dark that's quite lovely.
The units have a very similar look and feel and even share many of the same design elements. That said, you can't ignore the wall of windows facing the ocean in 28A when you first step into the unit. 35B is a narrower unit so it doesn't feature as much glass on the main floor, but what is there offers a beautiful view and we even turned the kitchen 180 degrees so that you face the ocean when preparing meals. Both units have main lanais with seating for six, and 28A has its master lanai nearby, while 35B has its master lanai above on the second floor. We find it hard to choose between these two units as they're both exceptional.
6C was our very first unit and has a beautiful private setting at the front of the complex. It features a beautiful garden view with a 'slice-of-the-ocean' in the background. If privacy is what you're after, 6C is as private as it gets at Wailea Ekahi. Building 7 faces the main pool and gets noise from that area, while Building 6 sits just behind it on the gully. That places 6C very close to the main pool and beach without any of the noise, and the added bonus of an almost completely flat walk to the pavilion/main pool area.
21B is also located at the front of the complex but behind the luxury beachfront houses. This provides 21B a partial ocean view in-between those houses/vegetation and it also gets the soothing sounds from the ocean waves. Although there is a small dead-end road between 21B and the beachfront houses, it's really very quiet and we barely notice it at all. 21B also sits substantially above that road with a hedge blocking any access, so it is indeed very private and there is no foot traffic in front of the lanai. Where 6C stands out for its privacy, 21B stands out for its very large lanai and how incredibly sunny the location is. The lanai is extra large because the main and bedroom lanais are combined as one. If lots of direct sun and the sound of the ocean are your priorities, you'll love 21B.
6C is our most 'island style' unit but we've made a number of updates over the years that added modern touches. Our guests have loved it and it gets tremendously positive reviews. Although we keep 6C in top condition, we feel it is due for a remodel and we plan to completely modernize it to the same standard as the two-bedroom units in 2021. Once complete, it will be the perfect hidden getaway - so close to the beach but very private and contemporary. Until then, we invite our guests to enjoy 6C before the rates understandably increase from the remodel. The amenities, supplies and equipment are comparable to our other units and the proximity to the beach is unbeatable.
When we purchased 21B, it had already undergone a partial remodel so we weren't able to start from scratch like our two-bedroom units. Nevertheless, we made a number of significant updates to modernize the condo into a spacious, contemporary vacation rental. Both 6C and 21B are quite large for one-bedroom units and each offer two full bathrooms, but 21B has a bit of additional interior space and a very large lanai that make it feel especially spacious. The kitchen layout is particularly nice with plenty of storage space and room to prepare meals. If the little bit of extra space, large lanai, and loads of sun are priorities, choose 21B.
WAILEA EKAHI VILLAGE
There are many benefits to staying at Wailea Ekahi. First, the complex sits on one of the original Wailea beachfront locations along world-famous Keawakapu Beach, with its very long stretch of sand and gentle ocean waters, perfect for swimming, snorkelling, and other activities. 'Ekahi' means 'one' or 'first' in Hawaiian, which really describes just how special this location is. The grounds consist of 34 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens with extensive vegetation and palm trees throughout. The resort was developed in the late 70s and early 80s, so its density is noticeably lower compared to recent developments and you'll love all the extra space around the condos. The buildings and grounds are continuously maintained and a brand new pavilion was just completed in 2020 so the complex is up to date and in excellent condition, while many units have seen either full or partial renovations inside. The complex offers four swimming pools, with the main heated pool just off the new beach pavilion, which itself features a beautiful kitchen, outside BBQ area, Wi-Fi, bathrooms/change area, and fitness facility. Wailea Ekahi is also very close to the other beachfront Wailea resorts with access along the Wailea Boardwalk, a fabulous oceanfront coastal walking trail connecting much of Wailea. Finally, Wailea Ekahi is in an ideal location for weather, within the Kihei/Wailea/Makena (or South Maui) area known as the 'sunny side' of Maui, while also being an excellent location to explore the beautiful island of Maui.
